Program Description
GIS Environmental Technologies has evolved into the newly renamed Environmental Technologies diploma with specializations in both GIS and Land & Water Management. This format offers you the flexibility to transfer between programs or graduate with both specializations. Our proven track record and industry-recognized name gives you greater marketability upon graduation. Our 'Spend a Day' initiative invites you on campus as our guest to help you choose your program and specialization.
Environmental Technologies, GIS specialization, features hands-on learning through labs, field trips and projects over a two-year (20 month) period. From the moment you start your first day until you graduate, you are part of a dynamic, student-focused atmosphere in which students thrive in small classes with experienced faculty and staff who take pride in your success.
During the fall of Year 1, you are often out in the field where you are introduced to the key features of the Prairie agro-ecological landscape. In the spring of Year 1 you are in the field collecting geospatial data using a variety of instruments and GPS units.
You use GIS, remote sensing and GPS to collect data detailing variations in land, water, vegetation, moisture and nutrient conditions. You learn to analyze this data, incorporate related information and solve land based management problems. You develop skills in database applications, interpersonal communications, cartography, problem solving, geomatics, statistical analysis and remote sensing.

Co-operative education integrates academic studies with a paid period of approved, relevant work experience to prepare you for the work force.
